러시아의 이르쿠츠크 시 부근에 위치하고 있는 바이칼호는

남북으로 길게 뻗은 호수인데요 호수의 넓이는 세계에서 일곱 번째이지만 담수량은 세계에거 가장 많은 호수입니다.

세계에서 가장 깊은 바이칼호의 최대 깊이는 1,621m인데요 호수의 주변은 2,000m급의 높은 산으로 둘러싸여 있습니다.

바이칼 호의 물의 양은 미국의 5대호를 합친 것보다 3배나 더 많습니다.

때문에 바이칼호는 ‘세계의 민물 창고’라고 불리고 있습니다.바이칼 호에는 약 360개의 강에서 물이 흘러 들어오고 있습니다.

그러나 호수에서 물이 빠져나가는 곳은 오직 앙가라 강뿐입니다.

앙가라강의 물은 시베리아의 예니세이 강으로 합류되어 북극해로 흘러들게 딥니다.

바이칼 호의 깨끗한 물은 현재 세계 각지로 수출이 되고 있습니다.
